Otherwhere is an independent publishing, bookbinding & graphic design studio as well as shop based in Amsterdam. As a studio Otherwhere publishes risograph books in limited editions. Run by Kay Brugmans, the studio specialises in binding by hand, designing, and publishing works that should be published with the precision of an ink-on-paper devotee who believes in the time-honoured craft of bookmaking. As a shop Otherwhere collaborates with artist Joakim Derlow and photographer Hillie de Rooij and collectively sells their publications and prints online.
Joakim Derlow is a Swedish visual artist and narrator. You can find a selection of his publications, special editions and limited edition art print in the Otherwhere shop. Derlow investigates a research field spanning from military-, survival- and observation techniques, seen through the viewfinder of artistic practice and processing, which strangely enough have revealed their roots in the modernist thinking and methods of appliance. His books are a maelstrom of interwoven prose, illustration and art theory.
Hillie de Rooij is a Dutch photographer. You can find a selection of her publications, special editions and limited edition art prints in the Otherwhere shop. De Rooij's work concentrates on a fascination of how our image and knowledge about the world is affected by images as seen in the media. She investigates how media images create a collective memory and how they can create an image of a place you have never been or of an event you never attended. 'I’m interested in how images are constructed, which imagery is used and what and where the image refers to.'
